SMASH to premiere on Broadway

Based on the much-loved NBC TV series, here comes SMASH. The new musical will run at the Imperial Theatre in New York from 11 March 2025.


The production is set to be directed by five-time Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman (Crazy For You, The Producers). The musical features a score by Tony, Emmy and two-time Grammy Winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Mary Poppins Returns/ Hairspray). They also wrote some songs for the original TV series, many of which will also be included in the stage show. The show's book is by Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) and Bob Martin (The Prom).


SMASH follows the story of the rehearsal process behind the making of a new Broadway production, Bombshell, a musical about Marilyn Monroe. The original TV series was created by Theresa Rebeck and executive producers included Steven Speilberg, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.


The cast of SMASH will include Tony nominee Robyn Hurder (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) as Ivy, with two-time Tony nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (The Prom) as Nigel, Krysta Rodriguez (SMASH TV series, Spring Awakening) as Tracy, John Behlmann (Shucked) as Jerry, two-time Tony nominee Kristine Nielsen as Susan, Caroline Bowman (Frozen) as Karen, Jacqueline B. Arnold (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) as Anita, Bella Coppola (Six The Musical) as Chloe, and Casey Garvin (Some Like It Hot) as Charlie.


The full company is completed by Wendi Bergamini, Sarah Bowden, Jacob Burns, Deanna Cudjoe, Chelle Denton, Daniel Gaymon, Merritt David Janes, Megan Kane, David Paul Kidder, Ian Liberto, Libby Lloyd, McGee Maddox, Connor McRory, J Savage, Jake Trammel, Katie Webber. Further casting is yet to be announced.
