Fly More Than You Fall, a new musical by Eric Holmes and Nat Zegree, will run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant (previously The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Operation Mincemeat) from 18 October to 23 November this year.
Last seen at NOORDA Center for the Performing Arts, following an industry presentation on Broadway in 2019, Fly More Than You Fall tells the story of Malia, whose life is thrown into turmoil when her mother is diagnosed with terminal cancer. As she navigates the emotional rollercoaster of her mother’s illness, Malia finds solace and strength in her writing. Her imaginative world, featuring a courageous bird named Willow, becomes a powerful metaphor for her own struggles and triumphs. Through the support of her friends, the guidance of her family, and her own inner resolve, Malia learns to face her fears and embrace hope, discovering that even in the darkest times, we can find the courage to soar.
The new production will be directed by Christian Durham (Zorro, Breaking the Code), with Associate Direction by Georgie Rankcom (Before After, Anyone Can Whistle), Movement Direction by Heather Douglas (BYMT), and Orchestrations by Daniel Edmonds (Dream Again, Paradise Square). The cast, which has yet to be announced, will be put together by Pearson Casting (Operation Mincemeat, Six, Starlight Express).
Book writer Eric Holmes said: “We created the show because we needed the show. Nat and I had been wanting to write about our experiences of losing our parents at a very young age. Anyone who’s lost someone knows that with grief, there’s no time limit. It’s not three months and you’re out. You’re grieving the loss of a parent or any loved one for the rest of your life.”
Fly More Than You Fall runs at Southwark Playhouse Elephant this autumn, with tickets available now.
